A Guide to Common Water Heater Problems in Center Line, MI

Your water heater will often give you warning signs before it fails completely. Here are some common problems our Center Line, MI plumbers see, and what they might mean.

  • No Hot Water: For a gas water heater, this is often a pilot light that has gone out or a faulty thermocouple. For an electric model, it's frequently a tripped circuit breaker or a failed heating element.
  • Not Enough Hot Water: The thermostat may be set too low, or a heating element could be failing. In gas heaters, a malfunctioning gas valve could be the issue. It can also be a sign of sediment buildup in the tank.
  • Water is Too Hot or Has a Bad Odor: Water that is too hot usually means the thermostat is set too high. A "rotten egg" smell is typically caused by bacteria in the tank, which can be resolved by flushing the tank and replacing the anode rod.
  • Strange Noises (Rumbling or Popping): This is almost always caused by a buildup of sediment at the bottom of the tank. The noise is water trapped under the sediment boiling. This reduces efficiency and can damage the tank over time.
  • Water Leaking From the Unit: A leak could be from a loose connection, a faulty pressure relief valve, or, most seriously, a crack in the tank itself. A leaking tank is an emergency and requires immediate replacement. If you are experiencing any of these issues with the water heater in your Center Line, MI home, it's best to call a professional plumber from JLK Plumbing for a safe and accurate diagnosis.

Center Line, MI Insights: Population,
Zip Codes, Influence, and Service Areas

Historically, the land that Center Line came to occupy was swamp and wilderness until the early nineteenth century. As land became scarce, French, German, Belgian, and Irish immigrants began clearing the forests and draining the swamps. Center Line was known as "Kunrod's Corner" during the mid-nineteenth century. The theory is that the French named it "Center Line" because it was the middle of three Potawatomi trails from Fort Detroit to northern trading posts. The "center line" was the trail used from Detroit to Utica. The community received its initial start when Catholics decided to build a church so that they would not have to walk to St. Mary's in Detroit for Sunday Mass. This church (St. Clement's) was established in 1854 and attracted more Catholic settlers into the area. In 1863, the first general store was constructed by Joeseph Buechel. On July 19, 1878, Hieronymous Engelmann was the first postmaster, and he was succeeded in 1885 by Sophia Buechel. The "Centre Line" post office closed on July 31, 1906, and the name was restored to Center Line thereafter. In this era, street car tracks connected Detroit to Center Line along Van Dyke Road, and Ten Mile Road was the final stop of the street car. The village was incorporated in 1925 in the center of Warren Township, which is now the city of Warren, and was incorporated as a city in 1936.
