A Guide to Preventing Clogged Drains in Center Line, MI

At JLK Plumbing, we want to help Center Line, MI homeowners avoid the hassle of clogged drains. The best approach is to be mindful of what goes down them.

  • In the Kitchen: One should always avoid pouring grease, oil, or fat down the drain. As these cool, they solidify and create stubborn blockages. Instead, they should be poured into a disposable container and thrown in the trash. When using a garbage disposal, it's important to be careful. Avoid putting fibrous or starchy materials, such as celery, potato peels, and coffee grounds, down the disposal. Expandable foods like pasta and rice should also be avoided. Always run cold water at full pressure when operating it.
  • In the Bathroom: A simple, inexpensive hair catcher can prevent the vast majority of issues. Toilets are designed to handle only human waste and toilet paper. Flushing "flushable" wipes, paper towels, cotton balls, or feminine hygiene products is a primary cause of severe clogs and sewage backups in Center Line, MI homes.
  • General Maintenance Tips: Once a week, flush your drains with very hot water to help melt and clear away any minor, greasy buildup. Be wary of chemical drain cleaners. Harsh chemical drain cleaners can be corrosive and damage your pipes over time, especially in older Center Line, MI homes. They are often a temporary fix at best.By following these simple tips, you can significantly reduce the frequency of clogs. When a tough blockage does occur, the professional drain cleaning services of JLK Plumbing in Center Line, MI are your best bet for a safe and effective solution.

Center Line, MI Insights: Population,
Zip Codes, Influence, and Service Areas

Historically, the land that Center Line came to occupy was swamp and wilderness until the early nineteenth century. As land became scarce, French, German, Belgian, and Irish immigrants began clearing the forests and draining the swamps. Center Line was known as "Kunrod's Corner" during the mid-nineteenth century. The theory is that the French named it "Center Line" because it was the middle of three Potawatomi trails from Fort Detroit to northern trading posts. The "center line" was the trail used from Detroit to Utica. The community received its initial start when Catholics decided to build a church so that they would not have to walk to St. Mary's in Detroit for Sunday Mass. This church (St. Clement's) was established in 1854 and attracted more Catholic settlers into the area. In 1863, the first general store was constructed by Joeseph Buechel. On July 19, 1878, Hieronymous Engelmann was the first postmaster, and he was succeeded in 1885 by Sophia Buechel. The "Centre Line" post office closed on July 31, 1906, and the name was restored to Center Line thereafter. In this era, street car tracks connected Detroit to Center Line along Van Dyke Road, and Ten Mile Road was the final stop of the street car. The village was incorporated in 1925 in the center of Warren Township, which is now the city of Warren, and was incorporated as a city in 1936.
